Schwitters again

In Bury on May 1 to visit Warth Mill, where Kurt Schwitters was incarcerated in 1940, as an "enemy alien"... performances of Ursonate took place as part of Bury Text Festival.. when I get a minute I'll add a full namecheck of artists. Very spooky atmosphere down there in the basement, where the prisoners really did have to live. A big contrast to the blazing sun and white plasterwork reflecting it outside.

  1. Thanks so much for this blog, just found it. Amazing the building is still standing. I hear you are doing a programme on Schwitters on BBC Radio 4 (is that right?) on 12th Jan. I would be very grateful for more details so that I can post the date on the Kurt Schwitters Society website (www.kurtschwitterstoday.org) and note it in our online Newsletter.
    Very best wishes,

  2. Hi Gwendolen,
Apologies for not replying sooner. I've been finishing the programme over the Christmas period. It's in fact going to be transmitted on BBC Radio 4 this Monday, January 9, at 4.00pm, and it's called Merzman: The Art of Kurt Schwitters. It will then be available on BBC iPlayer for one week following. I've just added another entry about it on my blog, with some photos. I do hope you like the programme. I can send a CD if you would like a copy - just let me know your address.

  3. Oh thanks, just picked this up. CD would be brilliant. Korneliusmarkt 38, 52076 Aachen, Germany. If you would like a copy of the new Schwitters book by me and Roger Cardinal, let me know and I'll see you get one - just need address.
